I have always found the school to be aware of such issues and that they have a plan in place with staff that are briefed on how to deal with the issues. They have often been the organisation that has identified an issue and pushed for mental health support with other agencies through referrals and attendance at Social Care meetings.

I have observed that the well-being, including mental well-being, of the students is at the core of everything the school does. All members of staff are focused on the care of the students, care which is driven by the safeguarding team who offer support on many levels, from liaison with other professional authorities to after school yoga classes. I have witnessed all staff being very adaptable according to the needs of each particular student, which I feel requires an incredibly high level of skill and knowledge.
Evidence of the focus on mental well-being is evident throughout the school as there are many posters, pictures and useful skill sets on every display, the safeguarding team also provide a range of mental well-being skills and interventions to assist all students, again according to the particular and varied needs of each individual student. I believe the mental well-being of the students takes priority within the school, with a wonderful understanding and approach towards mental health.

I have worked with risky and vulnerable children in the South-East of Essex for just under a decade and having worked closely with YMCA’s pastoral team. I believe they have an excellent understanding and skill set to work alongside, and engage, the young people that attend their school.

All of the team members are able to give reassurance, they are happy to help, very friendly and easy to talk to.

I am very happy with the provision and even feel my relationship with…… has improved as we are doing the work together. I am using Zones of Regulation with my children, and it is working really well in terms of them all identifying their feelings and talking about them. We have displayed on the wall and have some blutac to identify how they are feeling by sticking it on.
